Are you a mother who is nursing or otherwise carrying your child often? A baby ring sling is the perfect choice for parents of children who are frequently carrying a child around in their arms. With the baby ring sling, it is a simple matter to keep your baby close to you all day long. Baby ring slings are simple devices that allow you to keep your baby with you and carry them around while leaving your hands free to do other things. It is a simple product that has seen a tremendous rise in popularity over the years. With so many individuals making use of baby ring slings, it is not surprising that sales of the product have increased rapidly. As more and more individuals find the need to utilize the baby ring sling, it only makes sense that the convenience and popularity of the product would become common knowledge to the world at large. With numerous different products available in various types of fabrics and designs, there is no end to the possibilities for individuals who are interested in utilizing baby ring slings for their family and personal comfort.

As more and more individuals make the choice to utilize the baby ring sling, it only logically follows that the popularity of the product in general will continue to rise. Although once considered a must have item, the product saw very little use until recently. In the 80s, baby ring slings and hands free type carriers were extraordinarily popular devices and made a huge comeback.

The art of carrying baby in a sling was long ago considered something people did because they had to. It was just logical for a mother to use a baby carrier so she could go about her life in a more uncomplicated fashion and keep her baby close by in a baby carrier. In some places the use of baby ring slings and hands free carriers has obtained the stigma as something the poorer people do because the rich people use strollers instead of baby carriers.

In recent years, the use of the baby ring sling has come back with a roar, seeing both mothers and fathers strapping on the baby ring sling for the convenience of transporting the baby around with ease. The difference between carrying a child in your arms and carrying one in the baby ring sling is like night and day. While carrying a child in your arms will quickly cause you to become fatigued, utilizing baby ring slings and similar carriers makes all the difference in the world and allows you to keep on doing what you need to do without tiring. With the leverage and comfort offered by the extremely popular baby ring sling, it only makes sense that so many individuals would make the effort to purchase more than one for their use. As more and more people take the time to provide themselves with the baby ring sling, it seems quite obvious that the trend will continue and that the product will be more and more common as time goes by.

Even today, there are very few families who do not possess baby ring slings or baby carriers to use for carrying their infant child around. With so much emphasis on the ability to hold your child hands-free, sparing your arms, back and shoulders from pain and continued muscle soreness, it only makes sense for individuals and families to make use of baby ring slings in order to save much work and effort and provide parents the convenience of having baby close while they go about their days.

Baby carriers come in varying shapes and sizes. They represent the newest in cutting edge baby care technology and construction to the lowest of the low tech. But choosing the right baby carrier among all the options you have can be a daunting task; you may have to experiment with more than one of the many baby carriers on the market in order to find the one that is most comfortable and convenient for you. There are three styles that are most generally used. Each has own pros and cons from which you must determine which one (or more) will best fit your lifestyle.

Baby slings or pouches are the most simple and the hottest of carriers available in the marketplace. Unlike other baby carriers, the baby sling is a one piece, ultra low tech baby carrier that re-imagines an old concept of caring for babies. The pouch is a single, broad piece of cloth that can either be tied at the parent’s back or is one piece sewn together. The parent’s primary arm and head are fit through the cloth so that the baby sling runs diagonally along the body of the adult. The baby fits inside the widest part of the cloth and is secured by its own weight, bringing tension to bear on the outer edges of the cloth. This ensures that the adult has a reasonable amount of mobility, and some child development experts suggest that there may be psychological benefits to the child and parent by selecting this type of baby carrier. The downside of the baby sling is that usually infants or low-mobility babies are best suited for this kind of carrier. As babies get larger, more aware and curious and more mobile, these kinds of baby carriers can become burdensome and less effective at carrying your baby around.

A second type of baby carrier is the ring sling. Baby ring slings use similar concepts as the baby sling or pouch to keep baby secured but instead of being tied or sewn together, dual rings are used to create the ‘loop’ needed to keep baby safely tucked in with her mother or father. Baby carriers in this style are better adaptable for older babies to toddlers since baby ring slings can be used in several different configurations. And the extra “tail” can be used as a modesty cover if baby needs to nurse.

Finally, a third type of baby carriers is based in Asian tradition. Mei Tais are a usually square or rectangular piece of fabric with long straps attached at all of the four corners which is then tied around the wearer’s body. Parents can carry baby either on their backs or on the front facing mom or facing away from mom, so this style of baby carrier is quite versatile. Babies can be infants to toddlers as the way baby is wrapped in the Mei Tai will help provide support for little heads and necks or will allow baby to see his surroundings as well. Baby carriers of this style are best worn after a bit of practice, unlike the ring slings or pouches which require very little practice getting accustomed to their use.

No matter which of the baby carriers you choose, you will be happy you selected to wear your baby, because babies who are worn tend to be happy and well adjusted. And that makes for happy and well adjusted parents too!

As many hip parents know, baby slings have become an increasingly popular mode of transporting your infant or toddler around – from A-list celebrities spotted wearing a designer Baby Bjorn with baby in tow, to everyday moms and dads on the go who choose to use a variety of baby slings and carriers, the baby carrier is the way to carry your little one in style!

Saving Green…

With today’s ever-tightening economy, some parents are choosing to get crafty – and get sewing! While there are many gifted homemakers who enjoy making their own baby clothes, others are merely looking to save a penny or two and design their own easy-to-sew or no-sew baby wrap.

Going Green…

There are also environmentally-conscious parents who would prefer to start their child’s life on a green note – and organic baby slings are easily made, using natural fibers and textiles (such as hemp and unbleached cotton) as eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic materials used in traditional baby carriers.

Making a Scene!

Still others choose to express their creative side – crocheting, knitting and hand-stitching hip baby slings to suit their own personal style, crafty folks everywhere can consult a multitude of craft magazines and websites for how-to’s and blogs when creating their own original baby sling designs.

Ready, Set…Sew!

So, whether you’re on a budget, looking to express your artistic or creative side, or simply trying to live a greener lifestyle, it’s easy to make your own cheap baby slings – below, DIY instructions to sew your own baby wrap!

HOW TO MAKE BABY SLINGS:

For anyone who has basic sewing skills, this is a fairly simple project:

1. First, choose your fabric at a local fabric store – since you will be sewing (or serging) the edges, you may choose woven cloth that is unfinished, as well as fleeces and cotton knits, as long as they don’t curl up when cut.

2. Next, cut your cloth to the proper dimension – if you’re purchasing your fabric in person, the salesperson can cut the cloth to your specifications; we recommend 20 to 35” wide and at least 5 yards (15 feet) long.

3. Finally, you will finish the edges by serging all four sides of the material.

If you do not have your own serger, we recommend hemming all the way around the four sides of the baby wrap. You may also choose to visit your local sewing machine store, which might let you borrow their serger for free or for a small fee; visiting a tailor or dry cleaners is another affordable option for finishing your baby wrap.

IMPORTANT TIP: DO NOT buy 2.5 yards of 2 different materials & sew them together to create 5 yards – this will result in a WEIGHT-BEARING seam, weakening your baby wrap & making it less safe!

Although this is a moderately easy sling project for some, sewing isn’t quite an option for everyone, especially when you consider what you’re transporting! For the rest of us less-than-crafty folks who want to carry their precious cargo stylishly (and safely!), it’s not difficult to find inexpensive and cheap baby slings. There are many online sources, including Babysling.com, where you can find a great assortment of affordable baby slings & infant slings, including the ERGO baby carrier, Hotslings brand, Moby Wrap, Maya, Ellaroo, Baby K’Tan baby carrier and more! Whether you’re looking for a baby backpack, a linen baby sling, a Velcro sling, organic slings or any other type of kid sling, you’re sure to find a wonderful selection of moderately-priced, eco-friendly and stylish options at Babysling.com!

Philip Morrison is an advocate of baby wearing, having experienced the benefits for him and his two children after wearing them during their early years. At Babysling.com, find all kind of baby slings, moby wrap and carriers from Hotsling, Maya Wrap and more directly from the online store.

Baby slings and baby wraps have been in use for hundreds of years, but are receiving new attention thanks to celebrity parents like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Jolie and Pitt have been spotted carrying their newborn twins in baby slings while shopping and dining out. The babies look very happy and calm while their parents look stylish and unique.

What is it about these baby pouches that have made them so popular lately?

Two of the main reasons for recent increases in sling sales are an increase in mobility for the parents and a decrease in crying and general fussing for the infants. With the baby in the sling, parents have both arms free to do chores around the home, get through the grocery store quickly, and even have a nice dinner out – all while cradling their baby in a loving and healthy manner. The babies love being in their wraps because they feel safe and secure right next to their parent’s body and have a nice high vantage point to look around and get maximum visual and audio stimulation. Which would you prefer – being strapped into a rolling cage low to the ground or being right next to your mother’s heart in a beautiful sling made out of soft, luxurious organic fibers?

The slings and wraps are also light and highly versatile – they can go almost anywhere including tight aisles in clothing stores, crowded outdoor marketplaces, and even up and down stairs with no problem. Imagine getting in and out of your SUV without the hassle of unloading the stroller from the back, putting it together, loading up your child, strapping them in, and then closing up the three doors you had to open to get all that done. With a baby sling, you just slip the sling over your shoulder, gently cradle your child inside the soft fabric, get your handbag and go.

Another reason for the huge popularity of baby wraps today is their unrivaled versatility. You can carry your child facing you up near your chest, down on your hip, facing away from you on your belly like a kangaroo, on your back like a backpack, up high on your shoulder, or even in a nursing position. Think about how convenient it would be if you could nurse your child while shopping with both arms free in your local market? Your baby is warm, secure, and eating lunch – all with 100% privacy due to the extra fabric included in his wrap just for this purpose.

If you have not experienced the freedom, comfort, and convenience of a baby wrap you need to order one immediately and put it to use right away. You’ll find yourself lugging around a lot less equipment, your back won’t hurt at the end of the day from stooping and lifting repeatedly, your baby will sleep and eat more while crying less, and you will look fantastic the entire time while wearing your new designer sling.

You’ll find yourself lugging around a lot less equipment, your back won’t hurt at the end of the day from stooping and lifting repeatedly, your baby will sleep and eat more while crying less, and you will look fantastic the entire time while wearing your new designer sling.

Everybody’s doing it – well moms and dads in increasing numbers are doing it! They are wearing their baby!

The newest and greatest fashion it seems for new moms and dads are great looking and comfortable baby wrap carriers and slings. Even the rich and famous are into it – Brad wears one and so does Gweneth.

Baby has become a new (and beautiful) fashion accessory. There are many types and styles to choose from, including slings, wraps and back frame carriers. And they are created as much for style as they are for comfort and convenience.

The sale of baby carriers has grown in leaps and bounds in the past few years for a wide range of reasons. Here are 5 reasons why baby wearing is so popular – maybe you want to join the in-crowd?

1. Convenient. Baby wearing is convenient for the parent. It provides freedom for the parent since their hands are free to do other things and at the same time keep a close eye on their infant.

2. Comfort. Baby carriers are comfortable for both the baby and for the parent carrying the child. Once you get used to wearing the carrier and see how comfortable they are to wear for you and your baby you will probably wear your carrier a fair bit. Today’s modern carriers are ultra comfortable since they are designed to distribute weight across the shoulders and back of the person doing the carrying which greatly enhances the comfort.

3. Carrier can be used for newborn babies (some types of carriers) and they can also be used to carry older children (especially useful on a full day outing to a museum or to the zoo). This means that the carrier can have a long-life for families.

4. Reduces baby crying. A content baby is a happy baby. And a happy baby cries less. Holding a baby close to you increase their contentment – there is no better way to hold a baby close than using a baby carrier.

5. Easy to breastfeed. With a baby carrier breastfeeding a baby can be done anywhere. Wrap carriers, in particular have a large amount of material in the ‘pouch’ where you hold the baby. This provides mom and baby with privacy during feeding and it also means that the baby without being taken out of the carrier can be moved from one side to the other.

Celebrity watching is a ‘national pastime’. They tend to lead the pack in style. This time however, they are using baby carriers in ever-increasing numbers not only because they look good, but more because they are comfortable to wear and have so many advantages to mom, dad and baby.

And it’s not just mom anymore. More and more celebrity dads and the not-so-famous dads are getting in on the convenience and joy of carrying their child in a carrier.

Thanks,

I’d go either with a fitted sling like a Hotsling or New Native Carrier or if you want a two-shoulder style, I’d do a Mei Tai.

If you have decided to get a baby carrier you need to choose one suitable for your purpose. There are three main types of Baby Carrier to choose from Front Carriers (baby in front of you), Back Carriers (baby on your back) and Slings (baby cradled in front). Some are very inexpensive and others carry a designer label.
Be sure to try a few different types on with your infant inside that way you can get a feel for whether your going to be able to use it for long periods of time. Also take the time to ask other Mothers what they think about their baby carrier. You may be surprised at some of the responses.

The front and back carriers leave babies in an upright position, so may not be suitable for newborns, but they are good when you are going through the grocery store and your toddler gets the grab-its. It keeps your baby safe and happy since they can’t run off because you are carrying them, and your hands are free. If you go with a front carrier, look for one that you can change over to a backpack when your child gets older, as most kids enjoy the backpack until the age 4 or 5. It also makes it fun and safe for acquainting your child to hiking, or any other activity where a stroller may not survive the terrain.

Baby slings are versatile, and can be used for any age infant. Some convert for a sitting position to help you have your arms free if that is your child’s chosen method of being carried. Slings are my personal preference, but you do have to adjust them a little to get them adjusted and to be comfortable. The only downside I can think of with a sling is that one hand needs to be available if an active baby tries to make a run for it.

Why are slings and carriers so popular? In addition to the practical reasons of having your hands free, being next to your baby increases bonding. It also comforts baby, and the rhythm of moving with you is comforting to your child. Being at eye level with you (such as when they are in a backpack) gives the child or toddler an opportunity to see things from a different perspective. This is good stimulation and can help with brain development.

Once you have decided on your carrier, make sure you give yourself a little time to adjust. Sometimes you are using muscles you hadn’t used before; but once you get used to having your baby next to you, safe and happy, you wont want them anywhere else. Your carrier may well become your most important piece of baby equipment.
