Baby carriers come in varying shapes and sizes. They represent the newest in cutting edge baby care technology and construction to the lowest of the low tech. But choosing the right baby carrier among all the options you have can be a daunting task; you may have to experiment with more than one of the many baby carriers on the market in order to find the one that is most comfortable and convenient for you. There are three styles that are most generally used. Each has own pros and cons from which you must determine which one (or more) will best fit your lifestyle.

Baby slings or pouches are the most simple and the hottest of carriers available in the marketplace. Unlike other baby carriers, the baby sling is a one piece, ultra low tech baby carrier that re-imagines an old concept of caring for babies. The pouch is a single, broad piece of cloth that can either be tied at the parent’s back or is one piece sewn together. The parent’s primary arm and head are fit through the cloth so that the baby sling runs diagonally along the body of the adult. The baby fits inside the widest part of the cloth and is secured by its own weight, bringing tension to bear on the outer edges of the cloth. This ensures that the adult has a reasonable amount of mobility, and some child development experts suggest that there may be psychological benefits to the child and parent by selecting this type of baby carrier. The downside of the baby sling is that usually infants or low-mobility babies are best suited for this kind of carrier. As babies get larger, more aware and curious and more mobile, these kinds of baby carriers can become burdensome and less effective at carrying your baby around.

A second type of baby carrier is the ring sling. Baby ring slings use similar concepts as the baby sling or pouch to keep baby secured but instead of being tied or sewn together, dual rings are used to create the ‘loop’ needed to keep baby safely tucked in with her mother or father. Baby carriers in this style are better adaptable for older babies to toddlers since baby ring slings can be used in several different configurations. And the extra “tail” can be used as a modesty cover if baby needs to nurse.

Finally, a third type of baby carriers is based in Asian tradition. Mei Tais are a usually square or rectangular piece of fabric with long straps attached at all of the four corners which is then tied around the wearer’s body. Parents can carry baby either on their backs or on the front facing mom or facing away from mom, so this style of baby carrier is quite versatile. Babies can be infants to toddlers as the way baby is wrapped in the Mei Tai will help provide support for little heads and necks or will allow baby to see his surroundings as well. Baby carriers of this style are best worn after a bit of practice, unlike the ring slings or pouches which require very little practice getting accustomed to their use.

No matter which of the baby carriers you choose, you will be happy you selected to wear your baby, because babies who are worn tend to be happy and well adjusted. And that makes for happy and well adjusted parents too!

Wraparound baby carriers are making a come back for parents who don’t want to lug around a baby stroller and wish to keep their baby close by them when they are out in public. Newborns to babies up to 20 or more pounds can be carried in wraparound baby carriers. Many of the designs feature a ‘sling’ style which goes around the back of the parent or person carrying the baby and helps prevent back or neck injuries while the baby is in front.

Moms love wraparound baby carriers because they allow them to keep their sleeping baby close and their hands free to do other things like preparing meals or taking care of older children. Plus, the baby enjoys being so close to the mother and experiences closeness similar to the womb. Wraparound baby carriers provide a good bonding experience for fathers as well, helping the baby enjoy being close to dad in much the same way baby is close to his mother.

There are many different styles and manufacturers of wraparound baby carriers. Some are rectangular and some are triangular. No matter which you choose, wraparound baby carriers provide you the most diverse ways to carry your child. And as your baby grows older, you will be able to carry him or her in many different ways which will be enjoyable for both you and your child.

If you are using a wraparound baby carrier properly there should be no back pain associated with its use. You may experience some soreness if you are using muscles which you have not used in quite some time. When you look for a wraparound baby carrier, you need to find one that can “grow” as your baby grows and adjust to different weight distributions. When your baby is a newborn he or she will enjoy a more cradling hold. As baby grows in size and becomes more inquisitive, a carry method which is more like sitting up may be preferable for your child.

Wraparound baby carriers are more convenient than strollers because they are lightweight and will allow you to keep your hands free to do other things as well as have your baby close to you when you are out in public. With a stroller, you have to worry about where to park it when you go to a restaurant or navigating through racks and isles of merchandise. This is not the case with wraparound baby carriers since they are basically a part of you.

Wraparound baby carriers make the perfect baby shower gifts for the expectant mom-to-be or even the father-to-be. They are usually made of soft, quilted, yet durable materials in a wide variety of colors and patterns to satisfy any fashion style. In addition, they are comfortable for both the parents and the baby and if used properly, will be a very safe way to transport your baby or child while you are walking around a mall or shopping area or just going for a stroll around the park for exercise.

During the modern times, parents do not go out of the house without baby carriers for their infants. Prams are the things from the past, with mothers opting for baby slings each time they want to bring their babies along with them. If you have an infant, you might want to buy a baby carrier. Baby carriers have more advantages than baby prams. You won’t have to push carriages through crowds of people. There are no confusing straps or buckles to fiddle with. What is more, you can use your hands to do other things, besides shoving the pram.

When choosing from a wide selection of baby carriers, there are certain considerations that you have to think about. You should choose one that does not lead to back pains or back strain. An appropriate baby carrier lets you carry your infant in different positions. The carrier has to be easily adjustable. This way, it will fit both parents. Baby carriers should also be strong, so that you will still be able to use it as your baby ages and grows. Since there are different types of baby carriers, you have to buy one based on the requirements of your infant. Make sure that it can carry your baby without straining the carrier. The needs of the mother should also be considered. There are some carriers that allow discreet breast-feeding uses.

Aside from the uses of the baby carriers, you may also consider the design. If your baby is a girl, you can go for carriers that have flower designs or girly colors. Boy infants should be put in baby carriers with colors like blue, green, or red. There are carriers that are made from a hundred percent soft cotton. Some carriers are made from nylon fabrics while there are others that are made from knitted fabrics. While the design of the carrier is not that important, the fabric should be considered greatly. The material of the baby carrier should be comfortable enough for your kid.

When buying a baby carrier, look for one that is fitted with a harness that can be adjusted easily. This way, you will be able to strap your infant in easily and safely. The carrier should also have padding and a cushion, along with a comfortable shoulder strap and padded belt for the hip. Comfortable and strong shoulder straps support the carrier, when the weight of your child is quite heavy. You can try fitting your child into the baby carrier to make sure it fits.

There are a lot of boutiques and shops that sell baby things. Some of these are found within your neighborhood and in the mall. There are also some retailers that are found on the Internet. If you want to save yourself from the hassle of having to drive over to the store, you can shop for baby carriers on the web. One store where you can buy a carrier for your baby is Ready to Leave. This is a top retailer found in the United Kingdom. Aside from baby carriers, Ready to Leave also sells camping equipments, traveling equipments, and backpacking equipments.

You can find various kinds of baby carriers at Ready to Leave along with some of the best traveling equipment you can find on the Internet.
Once your baby is strong enough to sit up it is advisable to get a high chair so that the child can be fed properly without slopping things all over the bedclothes or the furniture. It is a nice way of letting the child participate at family meals, too. What are the options you have when shopping for a high chair? Which are the must-haves and which are to be avoided? We’ll run through the basics for your benefit.

The most important consideration in children’s furniture is safety. Make sure the high chair is not likely to topple over easily, especially since the baby is going to do everything in its capacity to make it do so. A low center of gravity and a wide base will make the high chair sufficiently stable.

High chairs come with safety straps to restrain the child from slipping out of the chair. At the very minimum it must have a crotch strap and a waist strap. If it has straps for the upper body, so much the better. If the high chair has no safety straps, but only provides restraint in the form of a padded bar or tray in front of the child, it is not a good choice, safety wise.

Hygiene is a big problem with babies and very small children. They are quite susceptible to various childhood infections. Dirt is the breeding place of these infections, and you have to work 24×7 to keep the baby’s environment and clothing clean. Don’t add to your cleaning chores, reduce them by buying a high chair with machine-washable cushions.

Attachable toys are very helpful in keeping the baby from getting bored and fretful. Make sure the toys are baby-safe, that is, they don’t have sharp edges or pointed corners, and they don’t break easily. Babies like to taste-test everything they can lay their little hands on. So make sure that the paint or finishing on the toy won’t make your little darling sick!

There are a few features that are really worth having in a high chair. Ordinary high chairs which require all your attention and two hands to detach the front rest are no good. Coping with a wriggling, struggling bundle of joy while trying to get your child in or out of the chair and having to operate a complicated front rest release mechanism at the same time is a sport worthy of being included in the next Olympics! Get a high chair which has a quick-release front rest. Ordinary high chairs are fixed. Get a reclinable high chair, so that even infants can join you at table. Get one whose height can be adjusted to suit tables of different heights. You’ll genuinely appreciate a high chair with a tray which can be popped into the dishwasher. A smaller snack tray in addition to the regular dinner tray is good value for money.

That, then, is the lot of do’s and don’ts for you to look out for when selecting a high chair for your precious one. Don’t get confused by the plethora of models that are in the stores. Safety first, hygiene next, these are the essential features that you must not compromise on. The other options depend on your budget, and whether they will fit your requirement.

by Jane Bear

Pregnancy is finally over, now you are ready to go home with your little bundle of joy. Having a baby is a wonderful thing; it brings endless moments of joy to the new parents. Parents, especially first-timers, would love to spend every minute of the day and night with their baby, but it’s just not possible. With a baby monitor, you can still hear your baby’s breathing and hear every little movement, which is almost as good as being in the room with them.

Typically, a baby monitor is an electronic device that allows you to hear your baby crying even if you are in another part of your house. Baby monitors come in two pieces. The transmitter, which is placed in the baby’s room, and the receiver that is placed in whatever room you are in.

Different types of baby monitors are available, there are audio and audio-visual baby monitors as well as specialized ones that can even sense the body movements and breathing of the baby. For something as essential as a monitor, it’s worth getting the best model you can afford.

The most popular kind of baby monitor is by far the audio monitor. It has two types, which are analog and digital monitors. However, interference from other wireless devices is an important issue to consider with analog monitors. Opting for a baby monitor with multiple channel selection can reduce this interference. A digital monitor that uses DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology) will not only give you more clarity, but is much better at reducing interference.

Audio/visual baby monitors let the parents see and hear their baby. These monitors consist of a camera unit with a microphone and a receiver unit with a TV screen and speaker. It is very important to make sure that the microphone that is attached to the camera is ultra sensitive so that you can even hear a pin drop.

There are also sensor baby monitors, which consist of sensitive pads that go underneath your baby’s mattress. Sensor monitors alert you if the sensor pad detects no movement from your baby for more than twenty seconds, it is capable of detecting even the tiniest of movement. These monitors are very helpful in the prevention of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

In this day and age, there are a number of safety measures we all must abide by to ensure the well being of our babies. In the home, a baby monitor can be a great device allowing you to keep tabs on your little one; it offers parents an added element of safety and security.

Overall, a baby monitor is a very useful thing to have in taking care of our little ones. But never forget that a monitor can never replace proper parental care. You should never leave your baby unattended for long periods (even while sleeping, check on them from time to time). Finding a reliable baby monitor online is quite easy, with quick shipping directly to your front door.

by JB Anthony

There are a variety of new crib models to choose from these days. There are still some parents though who choose to go with a secondhand crib. Before you think of doing the same thing, you should take note of a couple of concerns regarding secondhand cribs.

Why Secondhand

It is important to first look into the reason why people pick used cribs in the first place. The first reason is attachment. There are some families out there who simply do not wish to dispose of an antique crib simply because it has been passed down from generation to generation. There is a certain sense of continuity and a link to relatives from the past by using a family crib.

Some parents also choose secondhand cribs because they are cheaper. Parents who have more than one kid, are earning only an average income and who have other expenses to worry about would want to get a bargain on a piece of furniture that a baby will eventually outgrow. Some parents even openly promote the use of secondhand cribs.

The Problem with Secondhand

Of course, the first obvious problem with a secondhand crib is its age. Just like everything else, a crib does not last forever. A crib that has been kept for too long may already have defective parts. It could therefore easily collapse, break and injure your baby in some way.

A second essential concern with used cribs is that they may have been manufactured at a time before government safety standards were put up. New cribs have to be made with specific measurements and designs that are standard compliant. A secondhand crib could therefore have unsafe features such as over high side posts, wide spaces in between slats and head board cut outs.

A third major issue about it is that they could have been manufactured after government standards were set up but they could be recalled models. There are online accounts of parents who buy secondhand cribs and do not know that the model has already been recalled. A recalled model usually has design flaws that could endanger your baby.

Choosing a Secondhand Crib

Of course, there are parents who would still opt for used cribs. If you really insist on getting a used crib then make sure that you pick the right one. Here are some tips on choosing a secondhand crib.

- Make sure that the model has not been recalled. Ask for the brand and model type and then search online for recall information. – Check all of the crib parts and ask the seller how long the crib has been around. A very old crib is probably not worth the risk. – Buy only from a trusted source. Make sure that you know the seller and you are certain that you are not being short changed. There are some parents who think they are buying from a trusted source like neighbors but still suffer from consequences later on. – It would be better if your secondhand crib still has labels and marks that will give information on the manufacturer and will provide relevant warnings. – If you can help it, don’t scrimp. It is still safer to buy a new crib.

Flowers add a special touch to any event, especially celebrations like baby showers. While some choose a type of flower to match a colour scheme, others like to use the baby’s predicted birth month flower, or even the flower of the month in which the baby shower will be held. Whether you decide on flowers according to the baby’s birth date, or simply pick the ones that you love the most, this article will break down the significance of each month’s flower.

A great idea might be to choose different flowers based on their meaning and make a beautiful flower arrangement pattern for the shower. There are beautiful baby shower centerpieces that are made from baby clothes called baby bouquets that have to be seen to be believed make unique arrangements. These are some of the best baby shower ideas to be invented in the last few years.

January’s flower is the sweet and sassy carnation. The carnation exerts beauty, distinction, gratitude, fascination, and admiration; the pink carnation in particular represents “a mother’s love.” Soft and gentle on the outside but strong and durable on the inside, the carnation is the perfect flower to represent the bittersweet paradox relating to the first month of the year. The carnation’s scientific name, Dianthus, directly translates into “flower of love.” This flower is one of the oldest cultivated flowers in the world, yet one of the most popular today.

February is the month of love and warmth, and this month’s flower, the iris, denotes deep and profound notes. The iris’ three upright petals each have a meaning; the first is faith, the second is valor, and the third is wisdom. Gracefulness, majesty, and dignity characterize the iris’ presence. Purple, the color of royalty, makes February’s birth flower extravagant and majestic; the iris is truly the flower of splendor and grandeur.

In March, spring begins to arise with bright cheers and rays of sunshine. The daffodil is dainty and yellow, and is the flower that follows after and breaks winter’s cold atmosphere, bringing warmth and joy to the world. The daffodil is the symbol of rebirth, new beginnings, and a fresh start. Daffodils exert happiness and exhilaration to the world, and fill the earth with light and brightness.

April is a paradoxical month, with both rain showers and sunlight. The daisy’s character parallels this paradox, in that it is a feminine yet childlike flower. The legend of the history of daisies is that this precious flower originated from a nymph who transformed herself into a cute-but-not-loud flower, in order to run away from unwanted attention. The daisy is symbolic of eternal youth, playfulness, and a charming child-like character.

The best things about May are the beautiful lilies that decorate beautiful landscapes of the earth. Lilies are sweet and humble; they do not ask for attention but their unconventional beauty inevitably gets compliments and praise. Lilies symbolize virtue, purity and honour.

The middle of the year calls for June’s sunshine, warmth, and gorgeous roses. Roses are the universal icon for love and passion throughout the world. Roses depict beauty and perfection, and they reveal a touch of mystery. Each and every petal is as gracious as the next, and the rose surely stands out in a bouquet.

Whichever flower, month, color or any other category you choose for baby shower planning, you are assured to have a colorful, fun event for celebrating the newborn baby’s birth!
