As a new or knowledgeable parent there are lots of choices when looking to buy baby high chairs. Depending on your price point, high chairs can be bought for anywhere from $100 to $350 dollars.

Let’s look at some of the things to look at when buying a high chair.

Safety

Most high chairs come with a very safe and secure five point safety harness; however few high chairs still have a three point harness. The other thing to watch for is a T bar to avoid baby from falling out of the chair when the tray is not attached. Also make sure that the high chair has the (JPMA) Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association logo ensuring that it has been tested and meets the required safety standards.

Stability

It is important to look for a high chair that is very stable and can not be tipped over. Look for a high chair that has locking wheels as older children will try to climb the high chair to get in and out.

Recline and Height Adjustments

Various high chairs can be used from around 6 months of age until after 36 months. During that time it is important to find a high chair that will allow you to have multiple adjustments for height as your child grows older and taller. Multiple height adjustments can be found on the best selling Fisher Price high chair and other quality high chairs. Recline options are also important as many parents will use the flattest recline to feed baby a bottle when in the high chair. Again look for a high chair that best suits your needs.

Materials

Many high chairs are made of plastic and metal exclusively. However few are made of wood like the stokke high chair which ensures that your baby maintains the correct posture position while in this transitional chair. The trip trapp is a beautifully designed high chair, and although unconventional is a favorite of parents because of its simplicity and design.

There are many brands of high chairs to chose from. Depending on your and your child’s needs look first to safety and then choose based on what features you need.

Slumber parties are popular among little girls who like all their friends to stay over for their birthday. There can be a lot of pressure on parents to organise the best party for their daughter. This anxiety can often come from a healthy competition between parents to organise the best party at school, so the children talk about it for weeks to come. Making your daughter’s party the best it can be requires a bit of time and effort but it will be worth it when they tell you how much they enjoyed it and the wonderful time that they had with their friends.

Fancy dress themes are fun ways to start a sleep over and you can have a theme or leave it open. A pink velour tracksuit is fun when everyone is dressed up the same, or make it princess themed. Adding a bit of fun to what the children wear can also take the pressure off parents finding something comfortable and smart for their children to wear.

Food always plays a major role in any child’s party. First, check that none of the guests have any allergies or dietary requirements. Once this has been ascertained, you can go wild with the food you provide for the kids. Finger food is probably your best option so the children do not have to use knives and forks and you can use paper plates instead of risking any breakages of your nice plates.

Things like pizza, crisps and buns all go down well. If you think you need healthy choices as well, provide vegetable sticks and fruit pieces but I cannot assure you that they will be popular.

If all the children are sleeping over, you should ask mums and dads to send their child along with a sleeping bag or duvet cover and a pillow. If you make sleeping as comfy as possible, you will be more likely to wake up to happy guests.

Your daughter will be happy with her birthday slumber party if you follow this advise.

If an item of child’s clothing has a drawstring attached to it on the upper half of their body then this is illegal. It does not matter if it is on the hood, around the neck or attached to the waist. The ban was prompted by a number of deaths over the past few years. Strangulation occurs when the string gets tangled around the child or caught up on something. Childrens hoodies should be bought when they do not have drawstrings attached. Children love wearing hoodies when there is no drawstring.

Back To The Ban

Heavy fines and even prosecution has been brought against large retailers and manufacturers who used drawstrings in their children’s tops. The Consumer Product Safety Commission made tops with drawstrings illegal as they pose a serious risk to the safety of the child wearer.

A three year old boy tragically lost his life when a drawstring he was wearing got caught in a slide as he was going down it, strangling him, which makes the dangers of drawstrings more apparent. Retailers are slow to be caught when they break the law because so few people know which items are banned by law. The publication of the ban means that the CPSC can find lawbreaking retailers and manufacturers more quickly.

In Seattle the large department store Nordstrom was fined $60,000 for stocking banned tops. Four more retailers have received a collective fine of $600,000 over the past few years. Two of them were Kohl’s store and Hills Sportswear. Yet again another little girl suffocated when het top got caught at the playground.

Buying safe clothing for your child is a responsibility of every parent. The risk that clothes pose to children needs to be addressed all the time. Bike pedals can be a place that loose trousers can get caught causing accidents for example.

Hoodies of every kind should not be banned. A safe hoody can look lovely on a child. Children love to wear them because they are comfortable which is a bonus. Not only that, but a hoody is a great winter and autumn staple.

Once only to be enjoyed at carnivals and fairs the bounce house has made its way more into the main stream entertainment sector. From being at community events to inflatable jumpers at children’s birthday parties, the bounce house is catching on with children and families everywhere.

While some families do own an inflatable bounce house, the majority of people rent them when they’re needed. Bounce house rentals are quickly becoming big business for party rental companies in most cities in the US and Canada. It’s easier to pay a minimal fee to have another company bring the inflatable jumping castle to you, set it up and come pick it up when you’re through then to track one down to purchase. Not to mention the equipment needed to inflate the jumper once you have it at home.

Of course like any outdoor activities there are safety precautions that children must take when they’re having fun on a bounce house. Supervision is important for any age kid. What a child might think is a good idea to do on a jumping castle isn’t always something that a parent would allow them to do. The bounce house rentals company that you contact should provide you with some basic safety rules to follow when the children are playing on the unit.

You can locate a party rental company in your area in your local telephone book as well as online through the major search engines. For a list of jumping castles rental companies close to you visit this directory of party rental companies.

One thing is for sure, jumping castles is unlike any activity that your children can do at home in their own yard. It’ll give your next gathering or birthday party a feel like it’s a carnival, and have the children talking about it for weeks to come.

Keeping a tab on the nutritional requirement of small kids and teens can be a very difficult task. This is because kids at this age are more allured towards good and appealing food than towards healthy food habits. It becomes completely important that you as responsible parents keep a check on the nutritional intake of your kid.

You must teach your kids and teens to refrain from consuming junk food on a continuous basis and must let them understand the importance of a good balanced healthy meal. You can very easily maintain the nutritional intake of your child by introducing in his diet healthy food items. It is normally seen that kids and teens regard healthy food items as being bland, tasteless and boring . This makes them stay away from this healthy food. You as a parent can take the initiative and let them realise that it is not at all correct!

Cooking tasty recipes which are not only healthy but at the same time tasty will make your kid realize how untrue their perception was regarding healthy food! You can supervise the nutritional intake of your children by serving these healthy delicacies. The internet can prove to be a big help as it is virtually a treasure chest of such nutritional and tasty recipes.

You can regularly search new recipes on the internet which allow you to incorporate in them new ingredients. This will give you the chance to surprise your kids with new healthy recipes! Wellness companies like Herballife too have provided on their website healthy products which can allow your child to take in healthy stuff. It is not at all tough to make health and wellness a part of your kid’s lifestyle all that is desired is some interesting cooking!

The wireless baby monitor is the most popular type of baby monitor system on the market. Each system comes with a monitor, which is placed in the infant’s room; either mounted to the wall, attached to the crib or placed on a table. Then there are one or more parental units, which usually look like walkie-talkies (if handheld) or like LCD screens if it has video capabilities. Parents can then accomplish chores and have some down-time while the baby sleeps, without worrying that their infant may be in distress. While a digital or analog baby monitor isn’t an essential child-rearing item, many parents feel they are being more attentive when using one.

One wireless monitor to consider is the Graco Ultra Clear II. The Graco baby monitor is a budget product that has received positive reviews for its excellent reception and sound quality. Bonus features include a night-light and sound indicator lights, so you can simply see when your baby is crying, rather than be startled by the sudden, shrill shrieks. The system also comes with two parental unit monitors, which is a nice bonus.

In consumer baby monitor reviews, many parents give the UltraClear II 5/5 stars. However, like many other monitors, interference can be a problem in busier areas, so you might want to upgrade to the $60 Graco iMonitor system, which offers even better clarity. The only cons listed for this item are that the monitor is too sensitive and that the volume can only be turned off, not kept down low. Prices range from $36.99 at Amazon to $44.95 at Ebay. Target and Walmart also carry this product if you need it right away.

The Graco iMonitor, which is the next level up in the Graco baby monitor series, is more sensitive, has lower interference and ensures that there will be no accidental eavesdropping from neighbors who also happen to own Graco monitors. The downside to this wireless baby monitor is that the battery run-time is relatively short and the range is not as far as advertised. The average price is $80 to $105, depending on where you buy it. If you want a unit guaranteed to have zero interference, then you might want to try the Philips baby monitors, but you’ll be paying considerably more.

Nothing is worse than knowing your baby has been screaming his or her lungs out for the past hour, while you were out of earshot range, doing laundry, cooking or watching television. The wireless baby monitor enables parents to give the baby a little bit of encouragement from afar, while not caving in to the fussiness and whims of the child. Digital baby monitors are a great way to get chores done around the house and take a little break, without having to worry about the safety of your little one.

For some parents, hearing a baby’s gurgles or incoherent ramblings through an audio baby monitor system is enough to know that the baby is safe and sound, while hearing the screeches and the screams is enough to know the baby’s up and needs something, if not everything. Yet, especially for first-time parents, there’s always so much curiosity as to, “What is the baby doing in there? Is the baby up? Did we hear the first sounds of a half-cry? How long does it really take the baby to fall asleep in there? Did the baby sleep during nap-time today?” The wireless video baby monitor is an exciting device used to capture some of the baby’s unseen moments, without disrupting crucial sleep time.

When purchasing a wireless, video monitoring system, you’ll need to consider how you intend to use it first. Some 5″ to 7″ video baby monitors attach underneath cabinets in a more permanent way, while others can be propped up on any nightstand or countertop. Another category of receivers are the handheld varieties, allowing you the ability to roam freely, while watching your baby on a smaller 1.8″ screen. The actual baby monitor camera may be mounted to the wall, attached to the crib or affixed to a bookshelf. Can you pan, tilt, zoom or get a wide-angle view of the room with your camera? These are all options to consider, and it’s important to note that they do not come one standard way, across the board.

Another feature to consider for your wireless video baby monitor device is how many of each unit you’ll need. For instance, a standard baby monitor system will come with one camera and one screen. However, some systems offer an optional two-parent handheld unit, a video screen and a handheld unit, or multiple cameras for watching more than one room and baby at a time. For some people, a more advanced system might be the best fit.

A wireless video baby monitor is an excellent way to keep tabs on your baby. Some parents revel in the joys of parenthood and love to watch their baby chatter in the crib, laugh, giggle or call for mommy and daddy. After all, these quiet moments can be an ideal time to capture some great footage for a family video! Other parents like the ability to switch on the screen and see if their baby is awake yet, so they don’t have to open the door and disturb the baby’s slumber. Additionally, these wireless baby monitors are great for babies with colds, colicky kids, premature babies, handicapped children or for a number of other situations where vigilance is crucial.

The sun’s out and the weather is fine for backcountry hiking. Why don’t you bring your little one along in one of those sturdy baby carrier backpacks and let her enjoy the outdoors while you have fun too?

A Parent’s Backcountry Hiking Challenge

Backcountry hiking is a nice way to enjoy the summer and it’s an adventure the whole family will enjoy. With young children in tow, you have to slow your pace and take snack breaks in-between and if you have to take your five or six month old along, forget the front baby carrier because your child is now too heavy for long-distance travel that way; you’ll likely suffer back pain.

With a buggy, it will be difficult to maneuver the slips and slopes along the trails. Instead of enjoying the scenery you will be spending time balancing the buggy and checking the baby after each sudden twist, turn, and thump. What a damper. One of those child carrier backpacks will make your life easier on the backcountry trails.

The Solution

Baby carrier backpacks make parents’ backcountry hiking easier and your child can get a good view of the scenery; these backpacks are recommended for kids five- to six-months-old or older because they need to have strong enough neck muscles and the ability to sit up, pretty as you please, to get a good view of the countryside. It is a different experience alright when baby sees an adult view of the world, instead of the view of knees and shrubs they get from buggy rides.

For hiking or a leisurely stroll in the park, or even a walk about town, you do not want to be encumbered with the buggy or stroller. Once your child can sit up on her own, you need a versatile baby carrier backpack, in which your child can sit comfortably, and keep your hands free. These sturdier carriers do not sacrifice anything when it comes to comfort for both parent and child, especially for longer walks.

More Advantages

Some soft baby carriers are designed for longer use, but can still be uncomfortable. Rigid framed backpack carriers assure your baby’s security and comfort and are outfitted to make hiking a pleasure. Some varieties of backpack carriers can be transformed to a chair. It boasts good suspension, padded shoulder straps with on the fly adjustment points, and a padded waist belt. The waist belt is significant because you support the weight with your hips and legs not your shoulders.

You should be able to find many useful features such as pockets where you can pop in baby stuff, water proofed sun and rain guards to protect your child in case there’s a change in the weather, high backs and sides to shield his from branches and twigs, stirrups to keep his feet comfortable not hanging, a safety harness, and lashings for extra gear.

A collapsible frame for compact storage also works as a retractable kickstand to hold the carrier upright while on the ground, even with baby inside. Select one with toy loops; your child can grab these anytime or amuse himself with the bouncing toys while you trek the trails. Some of these backpacks come with a detachable bag for necessities – wipes, diapers and change of clothing during the hike. You can easily sneak in a candy bar for yourself.

With your hands free and your little one settled comfortably inside a baby carrier backpack, you and he will immensely enjoy your backcountry hiking, excursions to the mall and those strolls around the neighborhood.

What do you want out of your video baby monitor? You can pay over $300 for top-of-the-line, recording quality equipment or you can pay just under $100 for jerky webcam quality video. Let’s face it, when it comes to catching those special moments, nothing beats being there, firsthand, with an actual video camera. Yet, even the most dedicated parents can’t possibly be in the room with their babies every second. The main function of baby monitors video is to let you keep tabs on your little bundle of joy, without barging into the room every few minutes.

The Philips DECT baby monitor is frequently listed as one of the “Top 10 Best Baby Monitors.” Using the latest state-of-the-art security technology, you can rest assured that your baby monitor system works free of interference. Not only can you hear crystal-clear clarity, but you can also talk back through the monitor to soothe your baby. Added special features make it easy for you to monitor the baby’s room temperature and remotely activate lullabies or a light show to help your baby sleep easier. The lightweight receiver comes with neck and belt clips for easy mobility. On the downside, this is also one of the more expensive monitors, retailing at $200.

The Summer Infant video baby monitor ($105) comes with a 7-inch corded video infant monitor, a hand-held audio unit that runs off 3 AAA batteries, a belt clip and a video camera for tabletop or wall mount. You’ll get color and night vision when you want to see what’s going on, but you’ll also have the option of running the monitor in audio-only mode as well. The sound quality is clear, with a wide volume range so you can hear everything. Cordless phones and microwaves do not interfere with this model and even visits to the basement or attic will receive good reception. There are also multi-room units for monitoring more than one child, which many parents like.

Critics argue that baby monitors with video capabilities are over-priced and unnecessary. Technically, you could buy an audio baby monitor that has a “flashing light” mode for when you don’t want to be frightened by a sudden baby shriek. The louder your baby is yelling, the more lights light up. You don’t need to see your baby’s flushed red face and tonsils to know when he or she is yelling. Yet, other mothers say they just couldn’t live without a video baby monitor, since it lets them peek into so many rare moments, without disturbing the baby’s sleep or quiet time.

Having a baby brings a new set of challenges for you and your family. You need to find a way to transport your new addition to help make your life easier. Baby carriers are an excellent way keep your baby close to you and still have flexibility. There are many different carriers to choose from and determining which is right for you and your family may seem a bit daunting. Here are some ideas to help you make the choice which will fit your needs.

Keep in mind there may not be a right “one” carrier; you may want to have a couple of different carriers for different situations. Here is a summary of some of the most popular baby carriers available with some of the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

Some baby carriers allow you to “wear” your baby close to you. The most common of these carriers are baby slings. Baby slings are made of soft fabrics. They may be padded or unpadded. The sling generally refers to an adjustable, fabric carrier made of fabric with a ring that allows the wearer to lengthen or shorten a “tail” of fabric to fit the wearer of the sling and the baby they are carrying.

Once you learn how to properly adjust them, proponents of baby slings say they are the carrier of choice. One sling can adjust to any size adult caregiver, which is a plus. They are versatile and work well for nursing discreetly in public. There is a learning curve to figure out how to accurately adjust the fabric through the rings.

Another baby carrier that holds the baby close to the caregiver is the baby pouch. Similar to the baby sling, the pouch is made from a folded piece of cloth. However, the pouch uses a folded length of fabric, forming a pouch for the baby. The ends are fastened or sewn together, so that it is unnecessary to adjust the carrier. The pouch is easy to use, but needs to be properly fitted for a snug baby carry. It goes over one shoulder like the sling so your baby’s weight is all on one side.

Another unstructured baby carrier is the mei tai carrier. This Asian-inspired carrier is a soft carrier which has straps that fit over both shoulders, making it an ideal carrier for larger babies and toddlers. Although most wearers can fit a standard size, some manufacturers make extra large or small sizes as well. It’s especially effective for a back carry, although not necessarily for a newborn.

A wrap is a baby carrier that can be very versatile. The long piece of fabric distributes the baby’s weight over both shoulders, and it can be configured in many ways: back carry, hip, front, etc. If the wearer pre-ties the wrap, it can be used quickly for quick trips. However, the long piece of fabric can sometimes be bulky to store, and can be intimidating to a new user. There is a learning curve in mastering the different ties which are possible with the wrap style carrier.

Besides these soft, baby-wearing baby carriers, there are a variety of framed and unframed backpacks and front carriers for outdoor adventures. No matter which you choose, you and your baby will enjoy the closeness, bonding and convenience baby carriers provide you and your family.
